As I've mentioned a few times before, Mom is planning on buying a house this summer. We went looking Wednesday and saw a nice one only 10 minutes from her work and 20 minutes from my college. Then Friday we went again to look at others and the realtor said that that house already had 2 offers and there was some kind of problem and it could take months to sort out, so that one was off the table.
One of the houses we looked at Friday is *really* nice. It's kinda in a city, but the neighborhood looks decent. The garage is at the back of the house, and the back yard is really private. You can't even tell you're in the city back there. Oh, and it has a pool!!
It's 10 minutes from college and 20 minutes from mom's job. She would like to be closer to her work, but it'll be a better drive for her, especially in the winter.
We think we're gonna try for it :)

You want to continue living with his family during college! Why? You do not are interested in having a romantic life before your 21 years?
I'd say getting away from your manipulative neighbor is a big start.
Make sure your mother gets a good deal cos it is a buyer's market in real estate these days, especially in the USA. Make sure the house is not in a flood prone area and check the basement for dampness and water entry. If the house is more than 20yrs old, it may need new siding, new windows, roof etc.
-It is best to stay with your parents if you can during secondary education to reduce costs and debt. A lot of guys living in dorms end up flunking out cos they are partying and screwing girls instead of studying. But you have new possibilities in your new school and around your new neighbourhood. bfn - Wayne :)

Peter just don't be swayed by the "it has a pool" type thing - big deal. Wayne is right - your folks need to have a professional inspect the house (damages, structural, electrical, pests, etc etc) and make sure it is on the up and up. Do a bit of research about the neighborhood (floods, perhaps, but was there an old industrial factory just up the hill from your well water supply or some kind of similar scenario?).
I would highly recommend you and your folks visit the neighborhood several times, at different times and days (tuesday nite, thursday mid-day, Saturday evening after 10pm, Sunday afternoon, monday morning) to see what the neighborhood is like. Are there wacky neighbors in the house 2 doors down having a wild party on tuesday nite? Is the guy across the street testing lawnmowers on Monday mornings for a home business?)
How far is the nearest grocery store? Is there a good pizza place nearby? Does the town have good municipal services?
You need to research as much as possible, buying a house is a huge investment obviouslyt.
Oh and of course, is there a Non-Alex Cuteboy living nearby?

I don't think you need to be the one who is responsible to make sure the place is okay. Maybe pass on some of the suggestions to your mom if you feel like it.
Basically, I hope she finds a place that is suitable.
The only down side is I won't know where you are anymore. :( LOL
