I think that the most important qualifications for a politician are intelligence and a knowledge of economics. High political office is no place for dummies; why are so many Americans facinated by Sarah Palin, an ex-model airhead? Wasn't 8yrs of George W enough punishment lol? When George W went ahead and kicked some Mideast butt (which I agree with btw) he completely ignored balancing the books to pay for it and instead gave a tax break to the rich; WTF? The USA has no shortage of brilliant people, but politics is getting so sleazy (eg negative political ads) that they are avoiding running for office like the plague. Here in Canada election campaigning only lasts a few months before the vote; it can go on for years in the USA; politicians are focusing on campaigning instead of getting things done for the benefit of society. The recent ad on tv about China eventually owning the USA may have a lot of truth to it unless Americans get their act together. I think in North America that we are in for a big attitude adjustment; newer generations have a sense of entitlement that has gotten us into a lot of economic trouble. Older generations know that it takes a lot of sacrifice and work to achieve economic goals; a mentality that the Chinese have today and that we have forgotten. The house of cards of borrowing and debt will come tumbling down a la Greece. There is just too much excess; maybe a return to some Puritan values is not a bad idea. bfn - Wayne :)
election campaigns are COMMERCIALS in the USA. So, don't get wondered about the quality of people you elect governing you. Every vote counts? For WHOM?? HUGS Oliver

It sure does, every vote counts.
I wrote about my view of the midterms and the odd American politics on my blog www.seafrontdiary.com

I won't get into a debate with our neighbor to the north, and actually I agree with almost everything except what he says about Bush and taxes.
Our political campaigns are terrible, and way too much of what happens in Congress is for the purpose of denigrating the other party.
I voted. Here's hoping for the best.
